Rick Amaral, ACSW, LCSW brings over 30-years of clinical experience to his practice having served as a clinician, administrator and consultant for several healthcare, non-profit and educational systems in Connecticut.  He has been an Adjunct Professor at several Connecticut Colleges and Universities teaching both Sociology and Psychology courses on the undergraduate and graduate level for over 20 years.  Mr. Amaral has worked with children, adolescents and adults in many different formats (i.e. individual, family work, group work) for over 30 years in both private-practice, as well as with local community mental health agencies.  He has extensive experience working with various psychiatric diagnoses that include Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, Spectrum Disorder and PTSD. His other areas of focus include issues associated with grief and loss, relational, work-related stress, intimacy-related, self-esteem, and parenting. He utilizes a strengths-based approach that works alongside clients to identify areas to work on.  His preferred way of assisting clients is to focus on a Life Narrative format. Such narratives allow for many chapters, some written, many left to be written to be explored and discussed in session.  He holds a B.S.W. in Social Work as well as a MSW from Rhode Island College.
